DESCRIPTION:
'The Saxophonist' began as a real time response to the sound and movement of musician Luke Cuerel, who performed an improvised set live in the gallery. Working in pencil, acrylic and oil stick, Briony then worked back into the composition on her own, often while listening to an audio recording of the session. The key at the top and bottom of the piece show the order in which different colours and marks were added.
The evolution of the painting has been documented as it has developed from this starting point. See visual archive here.
