Jange Rae is an Indonesian artist born in 1974 in Bandung West Java.

The ‘Hyperfake’ series is not a protest, but a comment on modern brands, mass recognition of brand iconography and desire within in consumers - which has spawned the market of the replica.

The iconic images depicted in the paintings are deconstructed and scrambled and at immediate glance the subject is read and recognised as the genuine brand. The paintings explore language, symbols and brand recognition, meanwhile raising the question behind the motivation of consumption.. Are consumers interested in quality and design, or the status of the brand itself?
