Contemporary art in Guatemala draws inspiration from both the past and present. Lorenzo Morales was a student of the Guatemalan master painter Juan Sisay until Sisay’s murder in 1989. Morales now works from San Pedro on Lake Atitlan in the Guatemalan highlands. His work has been featured in the books Arte Naif & Nuevas Banderas (pub. UNESCO) and his paintings were selected to represent Guatemala in a major retrospective that travelled the United States.
